Keratin vs. tape-on method - which is safer for your hair?

Are you interested in a more permanent hair extension method? Among your options are the keratin method and the tape-on method (also known as the "sandwich" method).

The question arises: Which method should you choose to achieve the desired effect, maintain hair health, and ensure comfort and lasting results? We will compare these two popular methods.

The keratin method

The keratin method is highly valued for its durability and the naturalness of its results. In this regard, it often outperforms the tape method. Keratin bonds are the least detectable and blend perfectly with natural hair. After applying an appropriate temperature of around 180-200 degrees Celsius, the keratin bond melts and fuses the hair. A very small, barely visible, almost transparent bonding point remains.

This makes the keratin method more discreet than the tape method. Even if you have fine hair, these keratin bonds become invisible. Another advantage is the lightness of the bonds, which means they don't affect the natural movement, styling, or drape of your hair. Hair extended with this method can be styled, pinned up, and arranged freely, without any concerns about visible bonds. There are no limitations in this regard.

How does this compare to the tape-on method? What are the visual effects and aesthetics?

The tape-on method (also known as tape in or sandwich method) is also a very popular and sought-after method for hair extension and thickening. In this method, the extension hair strands are attached using special, thin adhesive tapes into which the hair strands are implanted. These tapes are then placed between natural hair sections, creating a kind of "sandwich."

The tapes are very thin to ensure their presence is as minimal and completely flat as possible. In our offer, you'll find tapes of standard widths 3 or 4 cm, as well as fantastic invisible tapes that perfectly mimic human skin, enhancing the aesthetic appeal.

The tape-on method tapes offered in our store are exceptionally lightweight, providing maximum comfort for daily wear. They can be perfectly concealed, even with thin and low-volume natural hair. Of course, this is slightly more challenging than with the pinpoint bonds of the keratin
method.

What about the durability of both methods? Which is more durable: tape-on or keratin?

The wearing time for tape-in extensions is about 6-8 weeks. After this period, you need to visit a professional again to have the strands removed and repositioned, known as a "correction." This is due to the natural growth process of your hair and the resulting regrowth that needs addressing. The advantage here is that the same strands can often be reused multiple times, leading to significant savings.

In the case of the keratin method, such frequent correction visits are not necessary. This method boasts durability for several months (from 2 to 4 months). After this time, a visit for removal and possibly new application is required. The same strands are never reused.

How do these two methods affect your natural hair? Which one is more invasive?

The professionalism of the service performed, as well as regular hair care and adherence to recommendations, play a significant role. Generally, tapes have minimal impact on your natural hair; they are non-invasive, very lightweight, and do not burden the follicles or structure of natural hair.

Greater invasiveness occurs with the keratin method, where heat is used for application. The correct adjustment of temperature, as well as the weight and quantity of extensions, is crucial.

Hair care aspects remain similar for both methods. You should regularly use cosmetics specifically designed for extensions, with very natural ingredients, e.g., from Hairtalk or careMe! brands. With the keratin method, it's very important to be gentle around the keratin bonds, for example, when detangling and applying cosmetics.

The final determining factor is price. The keratin method remains significantly more expensive than the tape-on method.

In our store, you will find hair strands made from high-quality Remy human hair, available both as tapes dedicated to the tape-on method and as strands used for the keratin method. We recommend them!
