Beads and thread are consumables and aren't included in the kit — see steps 3 and 4 below. Every tool in the case is also sold separately if you'd rather build your own set.

2

Section the Head

  • Work from the nape upward. Section the hair in horizontal, slightly arched rows (following the natural curve of the head) rather than perfectly straight lines.
  • Space rows evenly, leaving enough natural hair above each row to hide it once your style falls back into place.
  • Keep each section clean and flat before placing beads, so the row sits close to the scalp.
3

Place the Bead Row

Thread a bead onto each small subsection of natural hair along the row, spacing them evenly, then clamp each one closed with the pliers from your kit. Choose a bead shade close to the natural hair color at the section so the row stays discreet.

Sew the Weft to the Row

C-Shaped Needle for Weft Extensions

The curved shape makes it easy to pass the needle through the beaded row without catching the scalp — three needles come with the her flow tool set above, or buy them separately here. Thread it with a length of bonded thread and start with a locking stitch at one end of the row.

Match the thread to your hair color so any visible stitching blends in. Sew along the full width of the weft, securing it bead by bead, and finish with a second locking stitch at the other end.

  • 1. Lock the start. Anchor the thread with a knot or a couple of small stitches before sewing along the row.
  • 2. Sew bead to bead. Pass the needle through the weft's seam and around the thread between each bead, keeping tension even.
  • 3. Lock the end. Finish with another secure stitch so the weft can't slide along the row.
5

Trim & Finish

Once every row is sewn in, use the scissors from your kit to cut the hair on dry hair, blending the extensions with your natural length and shaping the style. Because the weft's edge is machine-finished, any weft you trimmed to width earlier will hold its shape without shedding loose hairs.

6

The Finished Result

A correctly sewn row lies flat and close to the scalp — flat enough to disappear completely under the top layer, even when that layer is pulled up.

A few weeks in and beads have grown out with your natural hair? Here's how to tighten them without a full reapplication.
