How to care for tape-on hair extensions?
Learn how to care for tape-in hair extensions. Tips and precautions for tape-on hair extensions.
The sandwich method, (also known as the tape-in method) is currently one of the most popular ways to extend hair. However, many women wonder if it's safe. They often worry about damaging their hair, hence their hesitation to undergo this procedure.
In this hair extension technique, we use strands placed on silicone tapes. Their application involves joining two such strands with natural hair placed between them by gluing them both from above and below. This creates durable and, importantly, invisible connections, making the hair longer and thicker. The resulting effect resembles a sandwich in its structure, hence the name of this method.
Tapes usually have a width of 3-4 cm. The number of strands to be used depends primarily on the structure of our natural hair and the effect we want to achieve. To thicken the hair, even 10 strands may be enough. If we want to achieve a lengthening effect as well, we need more strands - about 30-40.
The sandwich method is completely safe. The tapes on which the strands are placed are very light and thin, so they do not damage or weigh down the hair. They are also invisible, so they give the effect of naturally thick and long hair. Moreover, this method is performed without the use of high temperature and harmful chemicals. Thanks to this, it can be used regardless of the condition of our hair, even in the case of thin and weak hair.
An additional advantage of this technique is its durability - with proper care, even up to 9 months. The attached hair moves with the regrowth, so it is important to remember to regularly move the sandwiches (every 6-10 weeks). It is worth adding that the strands themselves are not disposable and can be reused. When moving, it is enough to replace the fastening tapes.
To ensure the longest possible durability of your hair, proper care is essential. It is extremely important to comb your hair frequently and thoroughly but gently. It is important to comb your hair before washing it. This will prevent tangling. After washing, the hair should be properly moisturized, e.g. using a conditioner and hair oil. It is worth remembering not to use alcohol-based products, as they will cause the glue on the tape to break down faster and dry out the hair.
It is also worth remembering about proper styling. You can, of course, use a straightener and curling iron, but you should do so carefully. Excessive styling can dry out the hair and cause it to become brittle. To prevent this, it is best to style your hair without using high temperatures and additionally use heat-protective sprays. Thanks to this, the hair will not only be beautifully smoothed and blend in better with our natural hair, but will also be healthy and shiny.
