How to care for tape-on hair extensions?
Learn how to care for tape-in hair extensions. Tips and precautions for tape-on hair extensions.
The tape in/tape on sandwich method is currently one of the most popular ways to extend hair. This is a procedure performed at a hairdresser's, involving the application of hair strands placed on silicone tapes. The method involves gluing together two hair tapes covered with glue on one side, between which we place a strand of our own hair. The resulting effect resembles a sandwich in structure.
In order for the effect of long and thick hair to last as long as possible, and for natural hair to remain healthy and nourished, it is important to remember to care for it properly. Thanks to this, tape in hair will last up to 6-9 months, and you will also take care of your scalp and natural hair. Below are some tips on what to do and what not to do when caring for hair extended using the sandwich method.
• After the procedure, do not wash your hair for the next 48 hours. The tapes need time for the glue to bond, so the hair should not be soaked too quickly. It is best to wait 2 days before washing your hair to make sure the tapes will hold well.
• Do not wash your hair too often. This will remove the necessary natural substances secreted by the scalp and will also loosen the tape-in hair tape.
• Do not use products containing alcohol. Such cosmetics dry out the hair, and alcohol can also damage the tapes on the extensions.
• Do not use products containing silicone or oils. These ingredients cause the tapes to slip off the hair. Although this makes combing easier, using such products will shorten the life of the tape-in hair.
• Never sleep with wet hair. This will damage not only the tape-in extensions, but also your natural hair. Your hair and tape-in/tape-on tape are especially delicate when wet, so make sure your hair is dry before going to bed.
• Comb your hair thoroughly before washing. This will prevent tangling. Start each combing from the ends so as not to pull your hair too much.
• When washing, use shampoo at the roots of your hair and conditioner from the mid-lengths down. This is a way to prevent weighing down your hair and making it greasy. After washing, use a conditioner spray to keep your hair moisturized and pleasant to the touch.
• Wait until your hair is 80-90% dry before styling with heat. Let your hair dry naturally, and only then blow-dry it. This will prevent damage caused by heat.
• Use a heat-protective conditioner spray before straightening or curling your hair. In addition, use low temperatures for heat styling so as not to dry out your hair.
• Put your hair in a ponytail or braid before going to bed. This way you will prevent frizz and split ends, because the hair will not get tangled and damaged as a result of friction against the pillowcase.
