The high content of citric acid gives chelating properties, lowering the hair's pH to a more acidic level. It helps cleanse the hair of minerals found in water, which can cause discoloration, and it seals the hair cuticle. The blond balsam also has smoothing and protective effects due to active ingredients such as castor oil and paraffin.
